# Desktop app for Mac

> Install Polysh Recorder on a Mac, connect it to your workspace, and keep it up to date.

**Polysh Recorder** is the Polysh desktop app. It records any app on your screen, not only Chrome, notes your clicks for zoom suggestions, and uploads each recording to your workspace as a new project.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Polysh Recorder for Mac is in **Beta**. It needs macOS 12 or later and runs on Apple silicon and Intel Macs. The Windows app is coming soon; until then, record with the [Chrome extension](https://docs.polysh.io/workspace-guide/record.md).

## Install and connect

**1. Download it**

Choose **Download for Mac** on [polysh.io/download](https://polysh.io/download/). In Polysh, Record, the **Record your screen** card on Home, and **Desktop apps** in Workspace settings also link to the download.

**2. Install it**

Open the downloaded file, drag **Polysh Recorder** into **Applications**, then open it from Applications.

**3. Connect your workspace**

Choose **Sign in**. Your browser opens the **Connect Polysh Recorder** page with a short code. Check the app shows the same code, then choose **Connect**. The app connects to the workspace selected in Polysh, so switch workspace first if you need another one.

**4. Allow the Mac permissions**

The app asks for **Screen Recording** (required), **Input Monitoring** (for zoom suggestions from your clicks) and **Microphone** (recommended, since Polysh writes the script from what you say). For Screen Recording, choose **Open Settings**, turn on **Polysh Recorder**, then choose **Quit & Reopen** when macOS asks.

## Record

Pick a screen and a microphone, then press **Start recording**. Stop from the Polysh icon in the menu bar, or with **⌘⇧2**. The recording uploads by itself and **Open in Polysh** opens the new project.

## Updates

Polysh Recorder keeps itself up to date. It downloads a new version in the background, then shows "Polysh Recorder X is ready" with **Restart**. It never restarts during a recording or upload, and if you quit instead, the update is installed then. To check straight away, choose **Check for updates…** in the app's menu. The version you have is on the menu's last line.

## Sign out or remove it

* To disconnect a computer, open Workspace settings and choose **Sign out** next to it under **Desktop apps**.
* To uninstall, quit Polysh Recorder and drag it from Applications to the Trash.
